There is no such thing as an environmentally friendly company...

..not even agriculture or market gardens are environmentally friendly per se. There are only companies that leave either a smaller or bigger ecological footprint. Based on this realization, we decided years ago to belong to the first group.

Arrival

That's why we recommend traveling by public transport. As the nearest bus stops are in the immediate vicinity of the apartment (30m city bus, 100m country bus) and the timetable is closely timed, getting to and from the train station is no problem either. It's even easier if you download the Fairtiq app (QR-Code) onto your smartphone - you'll always get the cheapest fare.

Mobility on site

Driving in the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley is rarely fun anymore, traffic jams are to be expected daily and everywhere. The cycle path network, on the other hand, is already very well developed. That's why we provide you with free rental bikes.

Waste

Vorarlberg is the "world champion" in waste separation. Please help us to keep it that way in the future!

There is a composter in the garden for organic waste.

For glass and metal you will find collection bins next to the washing machine. The same applies to plastics and paper - but you are welcome to throw these into the bins in front of the house yourself (yellow bag = plastics, paper = green garbage can).

Electricity

Since June 2023, an 8.25KWp photovoltaic system has been supplying the electricity for our house. When the sun is not shining, we use green electricity (Vorarlberg hydropower) from the local energy supplier VKW

In order to use as little of it as possible, we make sure to switch on the dishwasher, washing machine etc. when the sun is shining. Will you help us with this?

Solar thermal energy and heat pump

There is a 20m² solar thermal system on our roof. When the sun shines, it produces all the hot water for the whole house.

But of course we also have enough hot water when the sun isn't shining. In summer 2022, we installed a heat pump that draws water from a well in front of the bathroom window, extracts the heat from it and pumps it back into the ground 10m away.

Saving energy

The TV set is switched to standby when you arrive. The energy consumption is very low at 1 watt. If you want to help save the last bit of electricity while you are away: the switch-off button is on the bottom right-hand side of the device. Thank you very much!

All lamps in the apartment are fitted with energy-saving LEDs.

The house is very well insulated. We therefore ask you to ventilate the room at least once a day during the heating season (open all windows fully for 10 minutes), otherwise condensation may form on the windows. Thank you!

Water

Speaking of hot water. Our shower heads contain so-called flow limiters that reduce water consumption. Of course, without spoiling your showering pleasure.

As we are talking about water: To save you having to carry around bottles of mineral water, there is a soda fizzer in the kitchen and you will find 2 bottles of pre-cooled tap water in the fridge (tab water in Bregenz).

Shampoo/shower and cleaning products

Cream Soap Orange is a high-quality care soap made from purely plant-based ingredients - produced according to a recipe by Susanne Denk. The product contains no chemical preservatives, is particularly gentle and is also well tolerated by people with sensitive skin. The main raw material is based on palm kernel oil, is purely plant-based, pH-neutral (approx. 7.1) without additives such as alcohol, silicones, kerosenes, parabens, synthetic fragrances and colorants, and without animal testing. Mild sugar surfactants complement the formulation and natural orange oil provides a fine, fresh fragrance.

To clean the apartment, we use ecologically degradable cleaning agents from Unisapon or our home made vinegar-based cleaner.
